After brain surgery Endonasal Cranial Adjusting by Dr Adam Fields, Chiropractor, San Jose, CAAfter Brain Surgery, Endonasal Cranial Adjusting is Essential

A craniotomy is an operation to open the skull in order to access the brain for surgical repair.  A neurosurgeon performs the craniotomy by first cutting through the scalp over the area where the brain injury is thought to lie. A hole is then cut into the skull in order to access the brain. This is needed to repair any ruptured blood vessels and to remove the blood clot or growth.

After the operation is finished, the piece of bone that was removed is replaced, the muscle and skin are stitched up and a drain is placed inside the brain to remove any excess blood left from the surgery.

Some of the possible complications following craniotomy include allergic reaction to the anaesthetic, bleeding, infection, brain damage, brain swelling, stroke and seizures.

When the bones and connective tissue in the brain is altered through surgical intervention, there are ramifications for the functioning of the brain and body. The structures of the head are changed dramatically with surgery, and there are usually no efforts to return the head to its normal mechanical function.

If the joints of the skull, or sutures, become fixated post brain surgery it can inhibit flow of inflammatory exudates, CSF and blood which can lead to infection or swelling.

Endonasal Cranial Adjusting can actually remove fixations and surgically induced depressions in the skull.  Flow of the cerebrospinal fluid is restored and overall function of the brain is enhanced.

Endonasal Cranial Adjusting, when done intelligently and safely with an endonasal balloon, can be a great compliment to post craniotomy patients.
